If you've looked through my gallery you've seen and know about my bracer. I have recently added 99 anodized aluminum scales to the top of it, as you can see here. This was my first encounter with scales, and here I have just woven them over top of the European 6 in 1 chainmaille beneath. I do realize this is not exactly how scalemaille is meant to be woven, but I did learn the proper way as well, just haven't figured out where I want to apply it yet. 'Till then, my bracer will continue to look extra spiffy.
Actually come to think of it yeah, it definitely would be - I stopped practicing archery long before I started doing maille, I moved away from the country and my friends who owned horses that'd let me practice horseback shooting. (I had an obsession with ancient history at the time and was especially fond of the Mongols and Genghis Khan.)
ooooo!!! fun fun! That sound awesome! what bugs me is i have such a hard time finding any bracers that will fit my arm cause i have tiny arms so i have yet to still own the right bracer
yeah, i'm quite a skinny bastard, 6'2" and only 135lbs to give you some idea. I'm also a little OCD, which is why before I made my bracer I measured the circumference of my wrist/forearm in 1" increments so tis fitted perfectly to me.
lol, it's not the supplies that are a limiting factor so much as time. you could get a cheap set of supplies to make something like this for under $40, tis the learning and practice to get good at maillin that takes a few hundred hours, plus the weaving time for the bracer.
Actually, Dragon Scale usually refers to a specific chainmaille weave, actual metal scales create scalemaille. I know, may seem like splitting hairs, but I figure it never hurts to clarify.
